Call For Dedicated Tourist Office In Killaloe

Shannon Heritage is being accused of abdicating its responsibility by not running a dedicated tourist information office in Killaloe.

Fianna Fáil’s Tony O’Brien is calling on the local authority to work with Shannon Heritage to put one in place for the 2019 tourism season.

The semi-state made a facility near the town’s library available last year as a tourist centre, ran by the owners of Flanagan’s restaurant.

Clare County Council is to liaise with Shannon Heritage on its plans for this year but Councillor O’Brien believes that visitors need a more visible and prominent place to go:

 A spokesperson for Shannon Heritage said; “It would not be appropriate to comment on this issue as  Fáilte Ireland are Ireland’s tourism development body and are responsible for the operation and management of national tourist information network. As Ireland’s largest commercial operator of tourist attractions, Shannon Heritage  is mandated to manage and develop a portfolio of compelling visitor attractions to entice overseas and domestic visitors.”
