The Cabinet is likely to be briefed this morning on allegations of Garda phone-tapping against political sources.
Ministers will also discuss further plans for a root-and-branch review of the force.
The review was ordered in March after it emerged that figures around breath tests had been massively overstated.
But critics of the government have raised fears about its independence – because its chair, Kathleen O’Toole, was on the interview panel that appointed Noirin O’Sullivan as Garda Commissioner.
And you can hear Irish Independent journalist Niall O’Connor discussing the Garda phone tapping on Morning Focus from 9am.
