Shannon’s Sinn Fein Councillor has described plans for a new ALDI store as a step in the right direction towards making a conventional town centre a reality.
Aldi has lodged an application for planning permission with Clare County Council for a new store in Shannon as part of a 160 million euro investment in its Irish store network.
Planning permission was originally sought nearly three years ago for a smaller development, but was rejected by the local authority and subsequently An Bord Planála over concerns of a negative impact on the growth of a streetscape in the town.
