Brú Na Sionna Creche Owner Fears Losing Business Over Hefty Fire Safety Bill

A Shannon businesswoman has said a massive fire safety bill facing residents and property owners in the Brú na Sionna estate could mean the death of her business.

Cora Devanney is one of a number of people in the estate who have attended a meeting this week, as the deadline for them to pay a combined €2.25 million bill for works fast approaches.

Fees from €4,000 and up have been handed out to each of the 240 properties there after fire safety defects were discovered by engineers retained when the developer went into receivership, ahead of a litigation.

A schedule of works has been set out as a result to begin by March 10th.

Residents are concerned over the short time period to come up with the money to pay their bills – and Cora fears the worst if she has to pay up.
