Army Bomb Squad Remove “Historic Explosive” From Shannon Area

An army bomb disposal team has removed what’s believed to be a historic explosive device which washed up from the sea in the Shannon area.

A man out walking yesterday evening in the Illaunamanagh area spotted the grenade-like device, which he then reported to local Gardaí.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Collins Barracks in Cork was called in and the device was deemed not to be viable.

It’s now been removed from the scene for a full investigation by the squad, who will report back to Gardaí here in Clare.
