Body Recovered From The Sea Off North Clare

A Garda investigation is underway following the discovery of a body in the sea off Noth Clare.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 4 o’clock yesterday by the crew of a passenger ferry, touring the Cliffs of Moher.

The alarm was raised at around quarter to four last evening, by crew from a passenger ferry, who spotted the body in the sea, off the Cliffs of Moher.

Gardaí and the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene and a recovery operation was mounted.

The body was recovered from the water at around 4.30 and taken to the Coast Guard station at Doolin where Gardaí were waiting.

The body was pronounced dead at the scene and removed by hearse to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

It’s believed the body is that of a woman and may have been in the water for a number of days.

Gardaí at Ennistymon are investigating. No formal identification has yet been made.
