Midwest Humanists believes a referendum on Blasphemy laws is the right way forward.
It comes following a Garda decision not to prosecute Stephen Fry for blasphemy, which was reportedly made because of insufficient outrage.
A complaint was made at Ennis Garda Station in February 2015.
Planning is now underway to remove the constitutional ban on blasphemy – Peter O’Hara of Midwest Humanists says too much time and money has been wasted on debating the issue:
Meanwhile, we’ll find out this afternoon if the Dáil enforces its new stricter rules for the daily prayer.
TDs Ruth Coppinger and Brid Smith are refusing to stand during the prayer and could be asked to leave the Chamber.
They could also be docked a day’s wages but it’s unclear if the Ceann Chomhairle will carry out the threats.
