The Transport Minister appears to have poured cold water on any prospect of Shannon Airport returning to the control of the daa.

Some local representatives have mooted that the Airport’s current difficulties highlight the need for change in Shannon’s structures, and a government review of those is underway.

However, comments by Minister Eamon Ryan during a Dáil debate last night suggest that this won’t involve Shannon falling back under daa control.

During the discussion, the Minister acknowledged that there are “acute” problems at both Shannon and Cork, after what he called a “dramatic” fall-off in traffic, but he stated there is a “critical” and “strategic” imperative that both airports retain their international access.

It appears that this won’t happen with any involvement of the daa though.
