New Fund Set To Assist Shannon In Developing Frankfurt Connection

The government is to make €2.5 million euro available for regional airports to assist them in bidding for new routes.

While the fund will be particularly beneficial for Shannon in a post-Brexit scenario, it’s understood that the plan will proceed regardless of what happens with Brexit.

It may assist Shannon Airport in its efforts to secure access to a mainland European hub Airport, with Frankfurt the most likely option.

A recent report, published on behalf of Limerick Chamber, found a post-Brexit connection from Shannon to the German city could bring €412 million to the Mid West and West region.

More details on this fund are expected from Minister Shane Ross later today, but Clare Fine Gael TD Deputy Joe Carey has already told Clare FM that it is intended to be in place over the coming years.
