Pigeons “Dropping Dead Out Of The Sky” Around Ennis

Clare County Dog Warden Frankie Coote

Concern is being expressed about pigeons dropping dead out of the sky around the county town.

Clare’s County Dog Warden has received reports of such instances around the Ballyalla and Drumcliffe areas, as well as at Lees Road.

A similar spate of cases occurred in recent years, where it emerged the birds had fallen victim to poison laid down by some homeowners, to discourage crows from gathering at their property.

Frankie Coote says this time, though, it’s not clear what has caused it and has a word of caution for anyone who comes across a dead pigeon.

Anyone who finds a dead pigeon is being asked to contact the National Parks & Wildlife Service on 1890 383 000.
