New Animal Rights Political Party Launches

A new animal rights-based political party, which was co-founded by two Clare women, has been launched in the Midwest.

Animals First held its first public meeting in Limerick on Wednesday last and is recruiting new members.

The party was founded by five animal rights activists, including mother and daughter team Irene and Emily Lee from Liscannor, and while it has yet to be officially registered, it is up and running with the focus now on building membership.

Co-founder and secretary of the party Marie Coonan has explained how a recent exposé of the greyhound industry prompted them to get the group off the ground.
