It’s claimed Doonbeg residents are furious after letters were issued stating the local Post Office has closed down, with social welfare payments no longer processed there.

The letters, which it’s understood have been circulated by the Department of Social Protection, state that alternative arrangements must be made or else the loss of payment is risked.

Doonbeg is one of six Clare communities poised to lose its local Post Office thanks to the reconfiguration of services by An Post, but members of the local community have appealed the decision and the doors have not yet closed.
