Aireon Safety Service In Ballygirreen Awarded Global Safety Achievement Award

A first-of-its-kind satellite-based air traffic surveillance system based in Clare has been globally recognised for its significant contribution to reducing aviation risk in the past 12 months.

The Irish Aviation Authority’s Aireon ALERT service, based in Ballygirreen, has been given the CANSO Global Safety Achievement Award for 2020.

The space-based technology at the site has the ability to locate aircraft within minutes of going missing, covering parts of the planet that cannot be covered by land-based radar.
