Warning That Mart Closures May “Serious Impact Food Chain”

The Clare Chair of the ICMSA is warning that the food chain may be seriously impacted by the closure of the country’s marts.

The Taoiseach announced this week that all non-essential businesses would close to the public with immediate effect, which saw the marts – including those in Ennis, Kilfenora, Kilrush and Scariff – all shut down.

It’s led to concern among some farming groups about the financial hit farmers will take, now that they may be forced to feed their livestock for longer into the year.

O’Callaghan’s Mills farmer Martin McMahon says it’s is an extremely worrying time for the sector.
