Concern That €100 Million Farm Payment Cuts Will Hit Pockets Of All In Rural Ireland

It’s feared €100 million cuts to farm payments won’t only hit farmers but it will also take money out of the pockets of people in rural Ireland.

The Irish Farmers Journal has revealed that a draft document from the European Commission outlines plans for a 4% cut to the Basic Payment Scheme and some 15% under the Rural Development Programme.

In each case, this would mean €50 million less in the pot and would see a farmer currently receiving the average payment of €9,385 in a Basic Payment losing €375 next year.
