The Clare Chair of the Beef Plan Movement is welcoming a government bill which is being put forward with the aim of creating a “minimum wage” for beef farmers.
The bill, which is being proposed by Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín, seeks to ban below-cost selling of beef, in order ensure farmers have a liveable income.
It would be an interim measure introduced to give the sector a much-needed boost, following several weeks of protests by beef farmers which resulted in factories grinding to a halt.
