Clare-based IFI Chair Warns Entire Beef Sector Under Threat Without Price Increase

The newly appointed Clare-based Chair of the Independent Farmers of Ireland is warning that unless the price farmers get for their beef is increased, the entire beef sector is in danger.

It comes as the Beef Market Taskforce reconvenes today for its first meeting of the New Year, with the price of beef still top of the agenda.

It’s just the second meeting overall of the group and is perhaps even more significant, as all major retailers have agreed to attend the talks.

The IFI have warned of more protests in the capital next week if there’s no progress, and National Chair of the group, Kilmurry McMahon farmer Séamus Shannon, says unless the price issue is dealt with, the sector will be under threat.
