Beef Taskforce To Hold First Meeting

The newly-established Beef Market Taskforce will meet for the first time today.

The taskforce is made up of representatives from the Department of Agriculture and other State agencies, as well as farmers’ organisations and the Meat Industry.

It was established as part of the agreement which ultimately led to the end of the recent beef blockades that saw several weeks of pickets outside of meat factories, including Kepak at Drumquin near Ennis.

One of the groups which will be represented today is the Beef Plan movement, whose Clare Chairman Joseph Woulfe hopes the taskforce can scrutinise the meat sector and deliver better prices for farmers.
