The Department of Agriculture insists no decision has been made on the future of the Regional Veterinary Lab in South-East Clare.

There are fears for the facility’s future, as a working group evaluates the national network of labs, and it has been reported that this group has backed closing the Knockalisheen centre.

Farmers here have expressed concern that this would amount to a ‘backward step’ while some vets say it will be more difficult to detect diseases.
