With flights largely grounded, Aer Lingus has already admitted that it needs to restructure operations.

It has said that from June 21st, when the State’s Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme is to end, that it will ‘unilaterally’ implement changes.

Today, Clare FM understands, it’s begun to inform its Shannon workforce of planned layoffs there.

It’s not known exactly how many workers are affected, but the company has told at least some staff that they will be laid off until September.

In a statement to Clare FM this evening, Aer Lingus says that “unfortunately” is currently not operating any flights out of Shannon Airport.

Throughout this crisis, the company has been communicating directly with our employees, and this week is communicating with employees on an individual level as they “align working hours and pay with the amount of work that needs to be done.”

The airline also says it’s been engaging with trade unions on issues including cost reduction.

Aer Lingus issued the following statement to Clare FM:

Aer Lingus Statement

Throughout this crisis Aer Lingus has been communicating directly with our employees. This week we are communicating with our employees on an individual level as we align working hours and pay with the amount of work that needs to be done.

Unfortunately Aer Lingus is currently not operating any flights out of Shannon Airport.

We have also been engaging with the representative bodies on an ongoing basis regarding the urgent requirement to reduce costs across our business given the decimation in demand for travel in the immediate term and the uncertainly regarding future travel demand thereafter.
