70-Year-Old Man Charged With Sexual Assault Of Child In Dunnes Stores Toilet

A 70-year old Limerick man has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting a 12 year old boy in the toilets at Dunnes Stores in Ennis last year.

At Ennis District Court on Wednesday, the man – who can’t be named for legal reasons – appeared charged with sexually assaulting the 12 year old boy on August 25th last.

The school boy was at Dunnes Stores Mall with his mother and the sexually assault is alleged to have occurred while the boy was in the gent’s toilets at the Dunnes Stores shopping mall on the town’s O’Connell Street.

The man is charged with sexual assault and Sgt Aiden Lonergan told the court that the case will be going forward on indictment to the circuit court and that a Book of Evidence will be required.

Individuals convicted of sexual assault in the circuit court face prison terms up to five years.

Judge Patrick Durcan remanded the man on conditional bail to re-appear before Ennis District Court on July 17th next for the serving of the Book of Evidence.

As part of the man’s bail conditions, he is to stay out of Ennis apart from court appearances and sign on three times a week at his local Garda station.

The man is to also provide his phone number to Gardai and have no contact directly or indirectly with the alleged injured party.
