68 On Trolleys At Region’s Main Hospital

Hospital trolleys

Nurses say 68 patients are waiting on trolleys at the region’s main hospital today.

The latest figures from the INMO show University Hospital Limerick is the most overcrowded in the country again, with 44 patients left waiting for beds in the ED this morning, and a further 24 on wards.

It comes as visiting restrictions have been tightened at the Dooradoyle facility, following an outbreak of the highly contagious winter vomiting bug.

A ban has been imposed on all visitors except those in the ICU, High Dependency Unit, Coronary Care Unit and pediatric patients until further notice, with only one visitor per patient allowed there.

The winter vomiting bug causes vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea and anyone who thinks they may have contracted it should contact their GP by phone in the first instance.
