There’s been a spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show 59 patients were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 35 of those in the emergency department.

The overall figure is just one more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when 505 people have been waiting to be admitted at hospitals across the country.
