54 year faces jail over drunken threat regarding Clare Judge.

 

A 54 year old drunken man who told Gardaí that  people from Limerick were coming to shoot a County Clare District Court judge, is due to be sentenced next month.

James o Brien of 1 Ardcarrig, Carrigaline, County Cork, was convicted on a charge of making a phone call to send a message that was grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or of menacing character.

Cork District Court heard the 54 year old, rang Gardaí on the 5th of April 2008 and threatened that Judge Joseph Mangan along with a local Garda in Cork were to be shot by unnamed people from Limerick.

Judge Con O Leary initially sentenced Mr O Brien to one month behind bars but then adjourned the case until the end of January following a submission from the defendant’s solicitor.
