Tackling overcrowding and supporting older people are some of the main targets of the HSE’s winter plan.
The 30 million euro plan, which has just been published, will run from December to March – with particular focus from the 17th December to 13th January.
As part of the plan an extra 75 acute beds will come on stream at 9 hospitals around the country.
It comes as University Hospital Limerick remains the most overcrowded in the country today.
The latest INMO trolley watch statistics show 53 patients were left waiting for beds at the Dooradoyle facillity this morning, 37 of those in the emergency department.
It’s five more than Galway University Hospital, which is the second busiest hosptital in the country today.
