The five-year plan sets out a number of goals aimed at improving health outcomes for mid-west patients and making the UL Hospitals Group an attractive place to work, train and do research.

The group, which runs six hospitals in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary, has acknowledged the need for reform in the healthcare system and says this plan factors in the demands facing providers nationally.

These include the ageing population and growing burden of chronic disease.

The UL Hospitals Group says the strategy has also been developed as part of its commitment to the evolving needs, behaviours and trends reflected by the people in this region.

168 separate but interconnected projects have been identified, with a project manager and a timetable for delivery assigned to each of them.

The strategy has been welcomed by the Interim Director General of the HSE, John Connaghan, who’s said he’s confident it has enough flexibility to take advantage of changes in the health landscape.
