An average of one Clare woman per week travelled to the UK for an abortion last year.
A total of 53 women who had an abortion in the UK last year gave Clare addresses.
That’s according to the UK’s Department of Health, who have released annual statistics showing that the number has dropped significantly from the figure of 81 in 2015.

The actual number may be higher, however. 520 Irish women did not specify a county when they received an abortion.
3,265 Irish women underwent an abortion in Britain last year, an average of 9 per day.
The HSE says the figure has halved since 2001.
