The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital has dropped.

The latest INMO figures show 20 patients were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 15 of those in the emergency department.

The overall figure is five fewer than the busiest facility, on a day where 140 people are waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.

Separate figures from the HSE show UHL has two vacant general beds, and four vacant beds in its critical care unit, at a time when three hospitals – St Vincent’s in Dublin, Cavan and Mullingar – have no vacant beds.
