16 People Treated In Hospital After Plane Diverts To Shannon

16 people have been taken to hospital after a transatlantic passenger jet diverted to Shannon this morning.

The United Airlines flight was travelling from Houston in the US to London Heathrow, when it experienced severe turbulence.

There were 220 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 767-300, which diverted to Shannon this morning. 

The airline say the flight was forced to make the landing after experiencing "severe and unexpected turbulence" 

The plane touched down just before 6 o'clock and was met by medical personnel on the ground. 

14 passengers and 2 crew members were taken to University Hospital Limerick where they are receiving treatment.

The airline is wishing passengers and crew involved a quick recovery from their injuries.
