100 New Jobs For Shannon As Global Bio-Pharmacy Company Announces New Facility

A global bio-pharmacy company has announced an investment in a new facility Shannon, with the creation of 100 new jobs.

MeiraGTx is hoping to bolster its services by expanding its pipeline of potential gene therapy products.

MeiraGTx is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, which is focused on developing potentially curative treatments for patients living with serious diseases.

The bio pharmacy company has operations globally including in New York and London and it’s now hoping to bolster its services by investing in a facility in Shannon.

In its second-quarter financial results for 2020, which has been published today, MeiraGTx said the investment is part of the company’s expansion of its pipeline of potential gene therapy products.

A ‘plasmid production facility’ is expected to be operational by the end of the year, while a second ‘viral vector manufacturing facility’ is due to be operational by the end of 2021.

The investment will result in the creation of 100 jobs, providing a much welcome boost for the Shannon area and comes following an IDA-led campaign.

The company says it is looking forward to “working with the local community” as it establishes its new facility here.
