Woman Airlifted To Hospital Following Ennistymon Crash

A woman has been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in Co Clare this afternoon.

Two children were also injured in the crash and were transported by road to hospital.

The two-vehicle collision happened at around 1.50pm on the R479 road between Doolin village and the local national school.

Three ambulances and a rapid response advanced paramedic unit were mobilised to the incident along the Gardaí. Two units of the fire brigade from Ennistymon and an additional appliance and crew from Ennis were sent to the scene.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to remove the woman from one of the vehicles.

The Athlone-based Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance was requested and dispatched to the scene.

The woman was airlifted to University Hospital Galway while the two children were taken to the same facility by road ambulance. The other occupants of the vehicles escaped injury.

The road remained closed until an examination of the scene was concluded.

Gardaí from Ennistymon are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
