Whitegate manager Mike Ryan says they won’t be using their injury concerns as an excuse this weekend when they open their 2017 Clare Senior Hurling Championship campaign.

The east Clare men come into the game against Cratloe with the likes of Ian Fahy, Colm Madden and Jason Malone all on the treatment table.

It’s their third meeting in the championship in as many years, with Whitegate yet to come out on the right side of the result.

Ryan says they will be doing everything in their power to get that opening win.

That game starts in Tulla tomorrow evening at 7pm.

Meanwhile Sixmilebridge begin their bid to regain the Canon with a first round clash against Clarecastle.

The Bridge were defending champions last year but saw their year come to an end at the hands of Wolfe Tones in the playoff rounds.

Manager John O’Meara says their full focus is on making sure they get this campaign off to the right start.
