It’s claimed that managing the visitor experience in the county’s coastal areas the right way this year could impact heavily on next year’s tourism season.

Additional local authority staff are being drafted into the county’s most popular beaches this weekend, following a surge in visitors in recent weekends to coastal areas such as Lahinch, Kilkee and Doolin.

Issues including littering, vandalism and a lack of social distancing have been reported in some places and Clare County Council says it’s monitoring the situation along with Gardaí and the Civil Defence.

Beach Ambassadors and Harbour Masters will also be in place, while public toilets are being cleaned more regularly, additional toilets are opening in Kilkee, and additional bins will also be provided at the busiest locations.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that the additional resources are welcome.
