Taoiseach Gives Tentative Backing To Constitutional ‘Right To Health’

The Taoiseach has said calls from a Clare TD for all citizens to be given a Constitutional right to health deserve consideration.

Independent Deputy Michael Harty has already received backing from TDs for his Bill, which proposes a referendum that would see the Constitution amended to include a ‘right to health…within available resources’ and ‘within the common good.’

The proposal has been discussed by Cabinet, and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says Ministers agree it shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand.
