An Taisce Accused Of ‘Holding Up’ Vital Works At Trump Doonbeg

A number of Clare councillors have hit out An Taisce for ‘holding up’ vital coastal protection works at Trump Doonbeg.

Councillor PJ Kelly walked out in protest, ahead of a presentation by the environmental watchdog to last evening’s local authority meeting, while others tackled their Built Environment and Heritage Officer, Ian Lumley on the issue.

The Doonbeg works involve two structures made largely from rock armour, which would be screened from view and An Taisce has expressed the view that a redesign of the golf course should have been considered instead.

Despite Clare County Council giving the works the go-ahead in December, the project has been left in limbo thanks to six submissions made in January, including one from An Taisce.
