Clare County Council says 11 of the 187 letters offering support for Supermac’s Ireland Ltd’s planned service station on the M18 have been withdrawn.

Over 40 people called the local authority querying their association with the planning application since last week, and some of those who’ve written to the council have said they did not sign a submission in their name themselves.

On foot of a report in one of today’s national newspapers, Supermac’s Ireland Ltd has issued a fresh statement, reiterating that it first became aware that a number of persons had sought to retrieve submissions, when it was contacted by Clare FM last Friday.

The company says reports that a number of submissions purported to be made by a number of individuals were not in fact made by them is shocking to the company.

It goes on to say that if that is the case, the company utterly condemns such action and disowns such support for its planned development.

It concludes by saying that Supermac’s Ireland Ltd remains committed to the delivery of an outstanding service area at Kilbreckan.
