The body of a man has been recovered from the River Fergus by members of the Clare Civil Defence, who were conducting a search in the area yesterday evening.

The remains were subsequently transferred to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí issued an appeal for information at the weekend on the whereabouts of 24-year-old Clem O’Connell, who was missing from his home in the town since Monday last week.

A Garda spokesperson has today confirmed to Clare FM that the search for the missing man has now been stood down.

Gardaí say no foul play is suspected and that early investigations indicate that this is a tragic incident.
