It’s been a busy morning at Treacy’s Oakwood Hotel in Shannon where the counters have been hard at work totting up the number of yes and no votes from across the Banner.

The Ballroom is set up with a boxing ring for a charity event later tonight and despite what appears to be a landslide victory for the Yes campaigners, there’s been no animosity so far.

A 64 to 36 majority in favour of Repealing the Eighth seems to be holding steady since early today, mirroring the national trend.

Breege Hanratty from the Clare Together for Yes campaign is jubilant:

But those on the NO side have marked today as a ‘disaster’ for Ireland.

Around the county, we’re seeing interesting trends emerge.

In North Clare, a resounding Yes seems to have been given to Repealing the Eighth with Ennistymon, Lahinch, Kilshanny and Doolin all above 70 percent in favour of the repeal.

Nursing home residents across Clare have also given it the green light according to early tallies, by a margin of 2 to 3 percent.

So far, tallies indicate that just two boxes have had a no majority – that of Labasheeda and of Furglan.

All of 156 boxes have now been opened and the official count is underway – we’re not expected to see anything before 3 o’clock this afternoon.

But, it seems safe to say that Clare has voted to Repeal the Eighth Amendment.
