Hopes That Increased Employment Rate Will Become Evident

It’s hoped the benefits of the improving jobs market in Clare will become evident in the coming months.

New figures from the CSO show 382 people left the dole queues in March, with just over 6,400 on the Live Register at the end of the month.

There’s positive news on the jobs front in Clare following a significant drop in the number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit.

There are now 6,428 people on the live register in the county down 382 on the previous month.

The numbers all show significant growth on the same time last year – Compared with March of 2016, the live register here has shown a drop of 12%

North Clare had the largest drop in figures in the county with a fall of 138.

Ennistymon Fianna Fail Councillor Richard Nagle told Clare FM he believes this is primarily down to one industry.

In East and West Clare, meanwhile, the numbers signing on dropped by 73 and 60 respectively.

But these people across the county have told Clare FM that they aren’t convinced by the figures:

Clonlara based Independent Councillor Michael Begley has welcomed the fall in numbers and he expects the figures to bear fruit in the coming months.
