Event In Ennis To Mark Historic de Valera Election

A special event taking place in Ennis today will mark the centenary of Eamon de Valera’s historic 1917 by-election victory.

He was voted in as a Sinn Féin candidate on July 10th, 1917 and would represent Clare in both the UK and Irish governments until 1959.

Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin will be in attendence, alongside Fianna Fail TD Eamon O’Cuiv and former TD Sile de Valera, both of whom are Grandchildren of the former Taoiseach and President.
