A former All Ireland winning Clare captain feels the new structures for the hurling championship will help improve the game.
For a three year trial basis starting in 2018, the Munster and Leinster championships will be played as a 5 team round robin series with two home and two away games for each county.
The top two will contest the provincial final while the third place team go into the All Ireland Quarter Final.

The date for the All Ireland Hurling Final has also been brought forward to August in an effort to allow more time in the calendar for club games, with the month of April exclusively reserved for club action.
