Councillors Seek Shannon Heritage U-Turn

Shannon Heritage has been criticised for what’s been described as a ‘disgraceful’ decision to curtail operations at its key tourist sites this summer.

Clare Councillors have called for a reversal of the decision, saying the company has jumped the gun in announcing plans to close Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, and King John’s Castle, at the end of August even though they’ll only open from the end of this month.

Some of the company’s other operations in Clare, including Knappogue and Craggaunowen, won’t open at all this year, with Shannon Group says it made “difficult but necessary” business decisions in light of a lack of international tourists this year.
