Ennis Councillors have given a broad welcome to changes to the town’s Mobility Plan which will open up access to more cars each morning.

Following a review, the Council has announced that while pedestrianisation will remain in place, it will only be enforced from 11-6, Monday-Saturday.

The changes will take effect from Thursday.

During those times, parking won’t be permitted, and the Council says enforcement will also be stepped up in other areas including Summerhill where local residents were among those making the loudest calls for change.

The issue has proven to be a contentious one in the town, but Mayor of Ennis, Councillor Paul Murphy, hopes an agreeable compromise has now been found.
