In the week to last Friday, 28 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Clare, up from 21 the week before.

According to the CSO, this level has not been seen since the week of April 24th, when 100 coronavirus were diagnosed in Clare – at that time, a COVID-19 screening programme was taking place in nursing homes throughout the country.

Since last Friday, a further 16 cases have been diagnosed, but this only covers up to Tuesday so the numbers are likely to grow further.

More encouragingly, there have been no deaths in Clare linked with COVID-19 since the beginning of July.

Separate figures from the HSPC, meanwhile, show higher rates of the virus in Ennis and West Clare than in other parts of the county.

This week, compared with last, shows a growth in both areas, but there has been a drop-off in cases in the Shannon Electoral area.

In North and East Clare, confirmed levels of COVID remain low with less than five cases in each area over the past fortnight.
