Clare Garda Chief Confident Public Still Have Faith In Force

Clare’s Garda chief doesn’t believe public faith in the force has been damaged, as the hunt for a new Garda Commissioner gets underway.

Nóirín O’Sullivan retired from the role last night, saying the job had become about attending hearings and responding to inaccurate commentary, rather than actually getting on with reforming the force.

It comes after a year of pressure on the Commissioner as repeated scandals hit the force – including the revelation that 1.5 million fake breath tests had been recorded in their system.
