Clare Farmers Express Anger Over Delays On GLAS Payments

The Department of Agriculture has rejected suggestions of more delays to payments under the GLAS scheme.

The programme is the most popular rural development scheme ever run in Ireland, and currently has nearly 50,000 active participants.

Over 40,000 of these have received advance payments for 2017, valued at 161 million euro, but thousands more are still waiting for funding.

There are no county-specific figures, but it’s estimated that hundreds of farmers in Clare are still waiting for thousands of euro each.

The Cratloe-based General Secretary of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association Eddie Punch says it’s unacceptable.
