Clare Beaten By Limerick In Historic Free Taking Shootout In NHL Quarter Final

Clare have narrowly lost out in their National Hurling League Quarter Final against Limerick after a dramatic battle.

Clare were 11 points to 2 up, early in the first half, before an Aaron Gillane goal for Limerick helped them to power ahead, but the Shannonsiders continued to trail the banner by 3 points at half time at the Gaelic Grounds.

Clare managed to hold their lead early on in the second half until two goals pushed limerick ahead, with the banner closing the gap moments later in a thrilling battle.

The pair played out a 25 points to 3-16 draw, with a late sideline cut from Limerick’s Colin Ryan sending the game int extra time.

Two 10 minute periods saw Clare push ahead, holding a 3 point lead until a Diarmuid Byrnes goal leveled the sides in the last minute.

An additional two 5 minute periods of extra time failed to separate the sides – finishing Clare 0-33 Limerick 4 – 21.

The match was decided on frees, and in the end, it was Limerick that emerged victorious after scoring 7 frees to Clare’s 6 in sudden death

The Shannonsiders will now go into the semi final.
