Calls have been made for supports to be put in place to protect key aviation routes, so that Shannon and Ireland’s other state airports can continue to operate into the future.

Clare’s Fianna Fáil Senator has spoken in the Seanad today of concern that once the economy starts to recover post-pandemic, the recovery would be concentrated through Dublin airport.

Timmy Dooley insists this would be devastating to the local economy both in Clare and throughout the West of Ireland, which relies heavily on the tourism industry.

Senator Dooley every consideration to be given to the the demands and needs of regions.

In response, Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton has reassured that Department officials are exploring further targeted supports which will be considered by the Government, as part of further plans to aid broader economic recovery.
