Calls For Clarity On Future Of Moneypoint Following ESB Chief’s Comments

The ESB is being called on to provide clarity once and for all on whether Moneypoint is being shut down.

It follows comments from the utility’s Chief Executive Pat O’Doherty, who’s said the West Clare power station faces a “real risk of closure”, with few options ahead of 2025, when coal burning is due to end there.

The coal-fired plant, which was once the top contributor to the state’s electricity needs, has been operating well below capacity in recent times and hundreds of staff have been laid off.
