Calls For Action To Tackle Crime In Shannon Area

It’s hoped that increased Garda resources will be made available for Shannon town following a recent rise in burglaries.

Clare County Council is to send a letter to An Garda Síochána following calls from Councillors in the municipal district area, to step up foot patrols and create a visible Garda presence in the town.

There are around 50 officers based at Shannon Garda Station but many of those are assigned to the airport on a day to day basis.

The motion was put forward by Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn and he says something needs to be done to curb the “disgraceful activity”, which he says has upset members of the community.
